We'll hopefully have a computer there with a wireless connection so we can refer to insect web sites to help in identification, we'll also have a couple of insect guide books and some cameras.
Our goal is not to collect insects but simply to identify and start to build an insect census of insects that can be found at this park. We'll be posting results and photos online linked from the homeowner's association web site. All unique insects will be photographed, an identification will be attempted, and the child will be listed as the one who first found the insect. Participants will be requested to bring bug nets, cages, and other appropriate items to catch insects. Parents will be invited to stay and help.
Our goal is to not run past 10 or 10:30 at the latest. We hope to have a few members of the Entomological Society of Pennsylvania available to help in identification.
